We know life can be stressful - either a long day at work, going through a rough patch in life, or just need a break from it all. Your home is meant to be your safe space, but sometimes it can feel cold and strange. Here's our recommendations to creating a calming and relaxing environment within your home.
Don't let the clutter in your mind manifest into the real world. Having a mess around your home can be both visually and mentally overwhelming. I'm not asking for you to do chores, but instead throw out items you don't need, and create designated areas for everything. You're creating an open space with a lot of potential, thus alleviating your mind of all the stress and instead filling it with optimistic ideas.
Sunlight is a natural mood booster. Open the curtains, blinds, or shades during the day to bathe your space in warm, natural light. Consider adding skylights if possible, or strategically place mirrors to reflect available light.
That being said, make sure you invest in a soft warm light. Not the ugly orange the sell at home depot, but instead a nice amber that gives off a warm and cozy vibe. Invest in dimmer switches if possible so you can control the amount of soft life you're letting in to compliment the natural light.
Surround yourself with the calming energy of nature. Decorate with houseplants, which not only purify the air but also add a touch of life and vibrancy to your space.
As much as you're going to hate this last line, I have to say it. Fake plants are okay to have around the house.
Some of us don't have a green thumb and that's perfectly fine. As long as we create an environment that can connect us with nature mentally, you'll be achieving similar effects. Just don't cheap out on the fakes.
Engage your senses with calming scents and sounds. Light a scented candle with a relaxing aroma like lavender or chamomile. Play calming music, nature sounds, or white noise to create a peaceful ambiance.
